Everybody Loves Adjustable Beds

Adjustable beds are a specially outfitted bed that allows the head and foot portion to be raised and lowered. In addition many of these beds also can be lowered and raised vertically, making them closer or farther from the ground. Hospitals have been using some form of adjustable bed for over 100 years, but the adjustable bed as we know it today first debuted in the 1960’s. There are several common misconceptions that people commonly make when they think about adjustable beds.

One of the most common misconceptions is that adjustable beds are only used by people with health problems. There are many medical advantages to using an adjustable bed. They can reduce back pressure and back pain, improve circulation, help increase lung capacity, and help with acid reflux. While there are many medical reasons to use an adjustable bed, many people use them because they are incredibly comfortable and help them get a better nights rest. They also are great for eating, reading, and watching TV while in bed and if you get a king sized adjustable bed, then you and your partner will be able to independently adjust your side of the bed.

Another common misconception is that just because a mattress is expensive, it will be comfortable. Many expensive luxury mattresses are available for adjustable beds. These can be very expensive and really do not provide the same comfort and back support as some less expensive mattresses. For instance GoldenRest, a manufacturer of adjustable beds and bed accessories, has several very moderately priced mattresses that are incredible comfortable and won’t break the bank. Compared to their competitors, these mattresses are much less expensive, but provide just as much if not more comfort and support.

An adjustable bed can be a great way to sooth your back problems, help with circulation, or just help you get a good nights rest. Their advantages are enjoyed by all types of people and they are incredibly popular in many circles.

Adjustable Beds are Everywhere

If you or a loved one has ever stayed at a hospital, then you have likely been exposed to an adjustable bed. Adjustable beds are used by many millions of people and not only for medical reasons, but also because they are incredibly comfortable.

An adjustable bed allows for you to elevate your legs and head at the push of a button. This allows for you to read and sleep in positions that reduce back pain, expand lung capacity, and increase circulation.

These types of beds come in all normal bed sizes. The only size that is a little different is the king bed. If you get a king sized adjustable bed, it will in essence be two twin beds that are placed next to each other. This allows for completely independent control of either side of the bed, or they can be used in unison. This allows for one person to sleep and another to read, while each enjoys their favorite position.

There are many features that can be placed on these beds. Battery backup is one important feature that ensures that you will not loose the ability to use your bed if the power goes out. Many also come with built in massage and heat functionality. Some people prefer a wireless remote control over the traditional wired remote, but remember if you are someone that frequently looses the TV remote, this might not be the best choice for you.

An adjustable bed can greatly improve your sleeping habits, is incredibly comfortable, and has many medical benefits.

Hospital Beds: Not Only for the Hospital

It is seldom anyone’s wish to be admitted to a hospital for any reason. Sometimes we go as patients, other times we go to visit our family and friends, and some people work there. Usually though in the case of patients, they would much rather be at home as opposed to the hospital, but are unable to receive the necessary care at home.

If you do have to stay at a hospital then you have probably been exposed to a hospital bed. Almost all hospitals utilize an adjustable hospital bed in order to facilitate patient comfort and allow the nurse to easily care for a patient. A hospital bed can make several adjustments. They typically can go straight up or down, which makes patient transfers much easier. In addition, these beds also allow for the head rest and foot rest to be adjusted.

Older hospital beds had utilized hand cranks to achieve these adjustments, but most now are controlled electronically by a remote control. These pieces of equipment are very important to providing comfort to the patient. They allow for the patient to sit up while in bed, so that they can safely eat. They also allow the patient to easily watch TV, read, and by elevating the feet and head slightly, it is possible to improve circulation and lung capacity.

These beds can also be purchased for residential settings, and many people use them in their homes. They can make it much easier on the caregiver, who in many residential settings is not a paid nurse, but a loved one.

Some of the medical benefits of an adjustable bed are listed below:

- Reduce swelling of the legs and other areas
- Reduce back pain
- Reduce shoulder and neck tension
- Reduce strain on joints, such as due to osteoarthritis
- Allow patients to easily be moved, to ensure that the bed can be changed and
they do not receive bed sores
